Association of Obesity and Self-Perceived Health Status and Dental Anxiety in Adults

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between obesity, self -perceived health status and dental anxiety to utilize it as basic data for adult health and obesity management.
Methods: From March 10, 2017 to June 13, 2017, 229 patients, from among those who visited the dental clinic in the Incheon area, were analyzed using self-administered questionnaires after providing informed consent. The collected data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, ¥ö2-test and Pearson¡¯s correlation. Analysis were performed using the SPSS 18.0 program.
Results: Body mass index was higher in males than females, and the monthly income level was significantly over 30 million won (p<0.05). Abdominal obesity was found to be high and statistically significant (p<0.05). The relationship between dental anxiety and obesity is ¡°when dentists prepare local anesthesia and devices while waiting in a dental chair¡±, dental anxiety in the body mass index was statistically significant (p <0.05).
Conclusions: Maintaining normal weight is essential for preventing various diseases and preserving good health. Therefore, it is necessary to study health-related factors affecting adult obesity and to continue the research for adult health promotion.
